Child Maps
Use child maps when one branch has enough detail to become its own map.
What are Child Maps?
A child map is a separate map linked from a node in a parent map. It keeps the parent map easier to scan while giving the selected branch its own canvas.
After you create a child map, the original node stays in the parent map and shows an Open child map action. The branch details move into the child map, where the selected node becomes the main topic.
Creating a Child Map
- Open the map that contains the branch you want to separate.
- Select the node that should become the main topic of the child map.
- Choose Create child map from the node controls.
- Wait for StitchGraph to open the new child map. The child map keeps the selected node and its sub-branches together.
Opening and Returning
In the parent map, select the linked node and choose Open child map to drill into the child map.
In the child map, use the parent-map link in the editor header to return to the original map. StitchGraph brings you back to the node that owns the child map so you can keep your place.
Limits
- The central topic of a map cannot be turned into a child map.
- Each node can have one child map.
- Creating a child map counts as creating a map on your plan.
- Connections from the separated branch to nodes outside that branch may not carry over into the child map.
Sharing and Visibility
Child maps follow the sharing or workspace visibility of the map they came from. If you change sharing or visibility on a parent map, StitchGraph includes linked child maps when it can apply the same access.
For personal map sharing, see Sharing & Collaboration. For organization map visibility, see Organizations.
